Research Associates are part-time W-2 employees of LifeX Research. When requested, they complete short health research activities, they are paid for their time, and they have access to the LifeX employee health benefit plan as part of their employment.
When an activity is requested, Research Associates receive an email and/or text inviting them to complete it. Activities are completed in the Employee Wellness Hub, LifeX's secure online portal.
Each activity is designed to take 15 minutes or less and can be done from any device. Examples include:
• Health and wellness surveys
• Short wellness videos and quizzes
• Logging vitals
• Health coaching
• Telemedicine visits
• Healthcare satisfaction surveys
Activities are completed by the Research Associate (the employee), not by covered family members.
• $40 per hour for research activities, paid on a pro rata basis for the time spent.
• Example: A 15-minute activity pays $10.
• W-2 pay: Payments are W-2 wages, so they are taxed like any other paycheck. LifeX's payroll provider, Venture HR, sends paychecks for completed activities.
The Employee Wellness Hub is where Research Associates manage their employment and benefits in one place. Inside the portal, they can:
• Complete requested research activities
• View and download electronic medical ID cards (a physical card is also mailed)
• Check plan information and claims
• Review and approve benefit elections during Open Enrollment
Getting started:
1. Go to the Employee Wellness Hub login page and enter the primary email address.
2. Confirm date of birth and the last four digits of the Social Security number.
3. Create a password.
Covered family members age 18 and older are invited from Profile Settings > Family and receive their own login for privacy.
• Participation: Activities are optional but encouraged, since they help monitor and improve health. Per LifeX, not completing activities may result in termination of employment.
• Telemedicine: Telemedicine is available 24/7. Research Associates can register for OurLiveDoc by calling 940-LIVEDOC.
• Privacy: All personally identifying information is removed before data is analyzed or shared. LifeX shares only population-level, anonymized insights with Research Partners. Individual data is never sold.

LifeX Research Corporation is a health data and research organization, not an insurance company. Research Associates are W-2 employees, and as part of that employment they can enroll in an employee health benefit plan. The plan is ERISA-governed and self-funded.
Research Associates can choose from four plan types:
• VL plans
• Major Medical (MM) plans
• HSA plans
• Copay PPO
Each plan has its own Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBC), which lists deductibles, copays and out-of-pocket limits. The SBC is in each plan's tile on the enrollment site. Exclusions are listed in the Plan Documents.
• PHCS PPO is the network for Research Associates in most states.
• MagnaCare is the network option in New York and New Jersey.
Before enrolling, Research Associates should search the network online and also call their doctor's office to confirm the doctor participates.
• Preventive care covered at 100% in-network.
• 24/7 telemedicine through OurLiveDoc (940-LIVEDOC).
• Prescription benefits through ProAct, with Noble Health Services as the specialty pharmacy, available 24/7.
• Electronic ID cards in the Employee Wellness Hub, with a physical card mailed.
New Research Associates can add Humana dental and vision when they enroll in medical benefits.
• Monthly contributions are age-banded and depend on the network chosen. They don't vary by state.
• Deductibles run on the calendar year, and rates may change each January.
• Copays don't count toward the deductible, but they do count toward the out-of-pocket maximum.
• Non-emergency procedures need pre-certification, which the provider requests. Emergencies don't.

Open Enrollment for the 2027 plan year runs from November 1 to December 5, 2026. It's the yearly window for Research Associates to review their benefits and make changes for next year.
During Open Enrollment, LifeX will ask Research Associates to review and approve next year's coverage in the Employee Wellness Hub. LifeX will share plan updates, enrollment steps and benefit resources ahead of the window.
• Add or remove dependents.
• Move to a different plan level.
• Change the coverage effective date.
Outside Open Enrollment, changes need a Qualifying Life Event (QLE), such as marriage, a birth or a move. The QLE form is in the Employee Wellness Hub.
1. Log in to the Employee Wellness Hub.
2. Review the 2027 plan options and Summaries of Benefits and Coverage when LifeX releases them.
3. Confirm doctors are in the PHCS PPO network (or MagnaCare in New York and New Jersey). Providers who were in-network under Cigna but aren't in PHCS are paid as in-network only through December 31, 2026. Starting January 1, 2027, claims are processed only through PHCS PPO. MagnaCare is in-network in New York and New Jersey; outside those states, claims are processed as in-network with PHCS PPO.
4. Check prescriptions against the formulary for the chosen plan.
5. Decide whether to add or change Humana dental and vision.
6. Approve the 2027 elections in the Employee Wellness Hub before December 5.
• Deductibles reset each calendar year, and monthly contributions may change in January.
• Paychecks for research activities now come from Venture HR.
• Research activities continue as usual when requested.
